Terms of Service.

Updated August 31, 2026

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern access to and use of the Data Alias website and browser application at https://dataalias.app (together, the “Service”), operated by Changseok Lim, an independent software developer based in the Republic of Korea (“Data Alias,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). By accessing or using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

Table of contents

1. Service operator

Data Alias is a self-service, subscription-based software service operated by Changseok Lim, an independent software developer based in the Republic of Korea. You select, review, and process your own files yourself; Data Alias does not process files on your behalf.

2. The Service

Data Alias is a browser utility for creating protected copies of work files before they are shared with other tools: it detects personal and sensitive values and lets you pseudonymize, mask, or remove them, then export a safe copy. File parsing, detection, transformation, preview, and download run inside your own browser; file contents are not transmitted to Data Alias's servers or to our payment provider. A review step before every export is part of the product, not an optional extra.

3. Your files and your responsibilities

You retain all rights to the files you process. Because processing happens in your browser, we never receive, store, or acquire any rights in your files or their contents.

  • You are responsible for ensuring you own, or have the necessary permissions to process, the files you use with the Service.
  • You are responsible for reviewing every output before sharing it with any third party or external service, and for handling outputs in accordance with the laws and agreements that apply to your data.
  • You are responsible for safekeeping the artifacts that exist only on your device — for example mapping files, vault passphrases, and vault backups. We cannot recover them for you.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the Service in violation of applicable law or third-party rights;
  • probe, disrupt, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, its infrastructure, or other users' accounts;
  • resell, sublicense, or misrepresent the Service, or remove or obscure notices within it;
  • use automated means to access the Service in a way that degrades it for others.

5. Beta status

Data Alias is currently in beta. All features, including those planned for the Pro plan, are available free of charge during the beta. Features, limits, and interfaces may change as the product evolves. We will not present paid features as active before billing is actually available.

6. Plans, billing, and renewal

The Free plan requires no account and no payment. When the Pro plan launches, it will be offered as a recurring subscription:

  • Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period until canceled. The price and billing period are shown at checkout before you pay.
  • Payments are processed by Lemon Squeezy, our merchant of record, through a checkout redirect. Lemon Squeezy is the seller of record for the transaction and handles checkout, card data, taxes, and receipts. Your card details are processed by Lemon Squeezy and never touch Data Alias's servers; Data Alias only receives the checkout email and the resulting plan entitlement.
  • Prices may change; changes apply from the next billing period and will be communicated before they take effect.

7. Cancellation and refunds

The full rules live in our Refund Policy; where that policy grants you more than this section does, the policy applies. In summary:

  • You can cancel at any time through the customer portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and you keep Pro access until then. No further charges are made after cancellation.
  • Your first Pro purchase is covered by a 14-day no-questions-asked refund. If you request a refund within 14 days of your first payment, we refund the full amount to your original payment method — no justification needed. Contact hello@dataalias.app to request one; the refund is executed by Lemon Squeezy, our merchant of record.
  • Subsequent renewal charges are not automatically refundable, but you can cancel at any time to stop future renewals.

8. Intellectual property

The Service — including its software, design, and branding — is owned by the operator and protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. These Terms grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Service for its intended purpose; they do not transfer any ownership in the Service to you. Your files remain yours (see Section 3). If you choose to send us feedback or suggestions, you grant us a non-exclusive right to use them to improve the Service, without obligation or compensation.

9. Disclaimers

The Service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. No automated detector can guarantee that every sensitive value in a file has been identified. Data Alias reduces exposure risk but cannot guarantee detection of every sensitive value — always review the result before sharing it externally.

Pseudonymized output is not anonymous data: aliases can be reversed with the mapping file that you hold, and under many privacy laws pseudonymized data remains personal data. Store mapping files carefully and handle safe copies according to the rules that apply to your data. The Service is a software tool; nothing in it constitutes legal or compliance advice.

10. Limitation of liability

You are responsible for reviewing the output before sharing it with any third party or external service. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law: (a) Data Alias and its contributors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from use of the Service, including damages resulting from sensitive values that remained in an exported file; and (b) our total aggregate liability for all claims relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us for the Service in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as the product evolves. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date on this page, and for material changes we will post a notice on the website. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea, without regard to conflict of laws principles. Disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service that cannot be resolved informally shall be submitted to the competent courts of the Republic of Korea. Nothing in this section deprives you of protections granted by mandatory consumer-protection rules of the country where you reside.
