Zendesk + Data Alias: Read your Zendesk tickets straight into review

Tickets come from your Zendesk straight into your browser.

Why use Zendesk with Data Alias

Ticket exports are among the most useful data to analyse and the most sensitive to share: requester names and emails sit right next to the message. This reads tickets into review without a CSV export in between.

How it works

Enter your Zendesk subdomain. A pasted URL is reduced to that one name and checked again on our side, so a request can't be aimed anywhere but zendesk.com. Sign-in needs a secret, so the one-time code goes through a Data Alias relay, which discards the refresh token. Tickets then come from your Zendesk straight to your browser, and the ticket count is checked against your plan before any ticket is read.

What it does

  • Read each ticket as a row: ID, status, priority, channel, subject, first message, requester name and email, created and updated time
  • Check the ticket count before reading any ticket
  • Ask for read-only access to tickets and users
  • Revoke the token from your browser when you disconnect

How it will connect

These are the steps once the connection is available. Until then: Export tickets from Zendesk as a CSV and upload the file to Data Alias.

  1. 1

    Enter your subdomain

The part before .zendesk.com. Pasting the whole address works too.

  2. 2

    Connect

    Zendesk's consent asks for tickets:read and users:read.

  3. 3

    Import tickets

If the count is over your plan's limit, nothing is read and you're told why.

  4. 4

    Review in your browser

Detection, your rules and the review before export run in the tab, the same as for an uploaded file. Change any suggestion you disagree with.

What moves where

What reaches Data Alias servers
The one-time sign-in code and your subdomain. No ticket.
What Data Alias reads
Tickets and their requesters.
What is written to Zendesk
Nothing. The permissions are read-only.
Never sent
The original file, the alias mapping, and restored results with real names never leave your browser.
Who holds the access token
Your browser tab, in memory only. Disconnecting revokes it with Zendesk.

Limits worth knowing

  • Serving any company's Zendesk, not just one, needs Zendesk to approve a global OAuth client.
  • Importing the same tickets again means importing them again.

Your questions, covered

Start with a file today

Can I connect Zendesk today?

No. The connection is built and tested against stand-ins for Zendesk, but it hasn't been run against a real Zendesk account, so there is nothing to connect yet. Export tickets from Zendesk as a CSV and upload the file to Data Alias.

Can Data Alias change my tickets?

No. It asks only for tickets:read and users:read.

Does it read every ticket?

Up to your plan's row limit. If the count is already over it, Data Alias refuses before reading any ticket.

Will it catch a name typed inside a free-text answer?

Emails, phone numbers and credential patterns inside text are detected. Names written in a sentence are suggested only by the optional in-browser name detector, and it won't find every one — review free-text columns yourself.

Data Alias reduces exposure risk but cannot guarantee detection of every sensitive value. Every transfer passes the same review as a download — check the result before you send it. How connected services are handled.
