Why use Gemini with Data Alias

Asking Gemini to summarise support tickets or survey results is quick; deciding whether the file is safe to share is the slow part. Data Alias makes that decision reviewable — aliases in, identities out — before anything reaches Gemini.

How it works

There is no connection between Data Alias and Gemini. You protect the file in your browser, download the safe copy and the instructions prepared for AI, and upload them to Gemini yourself. When the answer refers to aliases such as PERSON_001, paste it into Restore and the real values come back — in your tab, from a mapping that never left it.

What it does

  • Prepare a safe copy and instructions that ask Gemini to keep aliases exactly as written
  • Keep aliases consistent, so the same person is the same alias in every row
  • Swap the aliases in Gemini's answer back to real values, in your browser
  • Warn you before download if a detected value would stay unprotected

Limits worth knowing

  • Aliases replace the identifiers Data Alias detects and the columns you choose. Detection can miss a value, so review the safe copy before you upload it.
  • Restore can only put back aliases that appear in the answer as written. If Gemini rewords or drops one, that value is not restored.

Does Data Alias send my data to Gemini?

No. Data Alias doesn't call Gemini or any other AI service. You upload the safe copy yourself.

Is the safe copy anonymous?

No. It is pseudonymised: identifiers are replaced with consistent aliases so the data stays useful. That reduces exposure, but no detector finds every sensitive value — review before you upload.

Where is the mapping between aliases and real values?

In your browser tab, and in a mapping file only if you choose to download one. It is never part of the files prepared for AI.
