Why use Microsoft Excel with Data Alias

Spreadsheets hold customer lists, HR records and exports with an identifier in every other column. Data Alias protects them in your browser, so the workbook is never uploaded anywhere to be made safe.

How it works

Drop an .xlsx file into Data Alias. It reads the first sheet in your browser, suggests which columns to protect, and lets you review every rule. The safe copy downloads as CSV, which Excel opens directly. Row order, column order and empty cells stay as they were.

How to use it

    Put the sheet first

    Data Alias reads only the first sheet. Move the one you need to the front, or save it as its own workbook.

    Drop the file into Data Alias

    The workbook is read in your browser tab. It is not uploaded anywhere.

    Review in your browser

    Detection, your rules and the review before export run in the tab, the same as for an uploaded file. Change any suggestion you disagree with.

    Download and open in Excel

    The CSV carries a UTF-8 byte-order mark, so Excel shows accented and non-Latin text correctly.

Does Data Alias connect to my Microsoft account?

No. You drop the file in and download the safe copy. There is nothing to sign in to.

What happens to the other sheets?

They are not read. Move the sheet you need to the front, or save it as a workbook of its own.

Will the same value get the same alias everywhere?

Within one file, yes — the same email becomes the same alias in every row, so joins and counts still work. To keep aliases identical across several files, use an alias vault.
